Introduction

A Technical Workshop/Forum New to the UK which has proven very popular in the USA amongst the iSeries Community. The main presenters/speakers of this event are Mike Cain and Hernando Bedoya from the IBM Rochester Labs in the USA. Both have been contributors towards a number of the IBM Redbooks and extremely well known within our community.

Mike Cain is a Senior Technical Staff member within the IBM Systems Division. He is also the creator and Team Leader of the DB2 for i Center of Excellence located in Rochester, Minnesota. Mike has worked as an IBM AS/400 Systems Engineer, Technical Consultant and Educator. Before joining IBM in 1988, Mike also worked as a Systems/38 Programmer and Data Processing Manager for a property and Casualty Insurance Company. Mike has 27 years experience with IBM working with clients and Business Partners around the world. In addition to assisting clients, he uses his knowledge and experience to influence the IBM solutions, development and support processes.

Hernando Bedoya is a Senior IT Specialist at STG Lab Services and Training in Rochester, Minnesota. He writes extensively and teaches IBM classes worldwide in all areas of DB2 for i. Before joining STG Lab Services, he worked in the ITSO for nine years writing multiple IBM Redbooks publications. He also worked for IBM Colombia as an AS/400 IT Specialist doing presales support for the Andean countries. He has 28 years of experience in the computing field and has taught database classes in Columbian Universities. He holds a Master's degree in Computer Science from EAFIT, Colombia. His areas of expertise are Database Technology, Performance and Data Warehousing.

Course Agenda - Objective and Content

Part 1 ( Tuesday and Wednesday ) :

  • Lectures on DB2 for i data centric application design, creation and use.
  • The importance of Security, Analytics and Mobile.
  • Update on the latest DB2 for i features and functions (7.1 and 7.2).
  • Review of the Best Practices for Designing, building, analysing and tuning.
  • Walk through designing, building and tuning an example application
  • Open discussion on anything related to DB2 for i

Part 2 ( Thursday ) :

  • Instructor lead demonstration with DB2 for i.
  • Brief review of tools, strategy and methods.
  • Exercises that show designing building and tuning a data centric application.
  • Final questions/answers and wrap up.


    Buffet Lunch and Refreshments provided during the event.
